Representative Joe Wilson yelled "you lie!" during Obama's speech
President Obama’s address to congress last night turned into a bad episode of Jerry Springer when Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., decided to open his mouth and let the vitriol flow.
The rowdy Republican shouted “You lie!” after Obama assured Congress that his proposed health care plan would not provide coverage to illegal immigrants.
Vice President Joe Biden was clearly upset at the comment, as his face slowly contorted into a look that would strike terror into the hearts of children, and Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives, looked as though someone near her just punched a baby.
Obama, however, maintained his famous cool-headed composure, skipping a beat only for a second before continuing his speech.
First off, how stupid is this guy? Did he think he was at a hockey game? Did Sidney Crosby take a dive to give the ‘Canes a penalty?
First, it is an accepted principle that you do not interrupt the president while he is addressing Congress. If democrats managed to keep their mouths shut for the eight years Bush was in charge, republicans should be able to control themselves, especially since Obama has only been in office for nine months.
Second, why did Wilson call Obama a liar? Does Obama have a secret plan to pay for all illegal immigrants? That doesn’t even make sense.
In the end, Wilson’s comment hurt only himself and his party. Rob Miller, Wilson’s Democratic opponent, pulled in around $100,000 worth of campaign contributions shortly after the speech according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
I can only imagine that Obama had the last laugh. When Wilson called to apologize, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel accepted the phone call on behalf of the president.
